ABOUT THE MARINE CORPS MUSEUM
OF THE CAROLINAS

It all started with a letter...

The idea for a museum about U.S. Marines in North and South Carolina started in 1941 — the year the bases in the Carolinas began to form.

The Marines and civilians who were involved in the creation of the bases understood that they were making history. They recommended that events of the time be documented and preserved for future generations. But wartime activities took precedence, and the years went by with little more than archives to mark the supreme contributions of some of the greatest warriors who ever lived.

Then, in the 1970s, a single business-sized envelope was received at Camp Lejeune addressed to the "Museum." The writer sent photographs of himself and the war dog he had trained and taken to war. He assumed that there was a museum!

Now, thanks to the combined efforts of Carolinians, Marines and Sailors who have served their Corps and country in the Carolinas, this long overdue project is underway.

Become a part of this legacy...browse through our site, preview the exhibits, and contribute to the cause to help us build a lasting tribute to the Marines and Sailors of the Carolinas!

We need your help to make this dream a reality.
